![]() ![]() When you’re not on the flight schedule (you may only fly 2 or so times a week) you’ll have a normal business hours kind of day doing small unscheduled maintenance like changing a generator or hydraulic boost pump. Night flight with a 1800 crew show time? That’s when you roll in that day, enjoy sleeping in. Training for being a crew chief is on the job training at the unit but after becoming fully qualified (no more than 180 days after assignment to flight company) your life is driven by the flight schedule. There is also the opportunity as a 15T to go to the flight company and be a crew chief. Maintenance platoon may also take care of swapping major components for unscheduled items like an engine or transmission crapping out. ![]() Phases take a couple weeks or so, so if you’re on a phase team that’ll be your day to day. These are called aircraft phases, and the floor supervisor (SSG usually) will usually establish a few phase teams that’ll be assigned aircraft as they come due for phase. Maintenance platoon will handle mostly scheduled inspections such as 200 flight hour inspections and such. Daily life there is 0630 PT, 0900 work call, working on helicopters, hourish or so for lunch, home by about 1700. Once you’re at your first unit you’ll go to maintenance platoon. I was a 15U (the same thing but chinooks instead of hawks) for several years before going warrant. Do not answer n00b questions on the main boards.
